Who we are
The Pennsylvania Midwives Alliance (PAMA) is a professional trade organization formed by and for a large, diverse collective of midwives. It was established to encourage collaboration within the midwifery community and to support midwifery as a pathway to improving health care for birthing people, women, and their families.
PAMA supports the Midwives Model of Care, rooted in the understanding that pregnancy and birth are natural life events. This approach blends the art of midwifery with a strong commitment to evidence-based practices. Our membership includes Certified Professional Midwives, Direct-Entry, and Traditional Midwives, as well as Certified Nurse Midwives/Certified Midwives who provide care in out-of-hospital settings.
In addition to midwives, PAMA’s vision includes welcoming active participation from the broader birth community, including consumers and educators. These individuals not only engage in initiatives that support safe, respectful care but may also contribute to our leadership as members, helping us achieve our mission and goals.
